Here is a first stab at what I intend to be a series of tutorials on key concepts and models in football analytics. The first installment is a two-part introduction to the concept of Expected Points. The tutorials are Khan Academy-style videos
, each about 10 to 15 minutes in duration. Eventually I'd like to have a library of tutorials on several various topics, and perhaps even build build them into a comprehensive course.
I chose the EP model as the first lesson because it strikes the right balance between complexity and analytical power. Like everything else around here, the initial version could stand to be improved. For now, I'm hoping to refine the process and get better at demonstrating the concepts. Unfortunately, the audio is a little soft--you'll have to crank up the volume. Feedback and suggestions for the next topics would be helpful.
